00110mI LOVED Chanel’s recent haute couture collection. I’ve been feeling very black and white-ish, and I’m always inspired by paper, so this show was just a trip. I NEED giant paper headdresses. Now.

Christian Dior Spring 2009 Haute Couture

Ah, couture season. Such beautiful clothes to ogle, such attention to detail and craftsmanship. It’s sad, though, because I will never see any of it in person, nor can I even really relate to it in the way that I can relate to ready-to-wear, even ready-to-wear that I know I’ll never wear. John Galliano put on a very Dior-ish couture show, as usual, some of which I found gorgeous, some of which I wasn’t a huge of fan of (although it all looks amazingly luxurious and grand). It’s hard, because I can’t think of ANY occasion where I would want to wear anything like this, and, frankly, clothes are for wearing, so that makes it the tiniest bit less appealing to me. My favorite looks, though, were the ivory dresses, the black and white, and the beautiful flared white dress with a blue patterned underside. It’s like an inside out teacup!

weardrobeI wanted to actually get started with this funness before I wrote about it, but I had my first day, and I’m incredibly excited to say that I’m going to be doing some work for Weardrobe! Weardrobe is an awesome website where you can upload pictures of your outfits (a la My Style Diary) and look at other people’s outfits. You can also tag pieces you’re wearing, and then you can track individual pieces in your closet and basically build a little virtual closet. It’s pretty awesome, and I’m doing some editorial work for them and working on various other projects. It’s kind of exactly what I do for fun/to avoid doing my homework, which is SO sweet. I kinnnnd of want to quit school and just do this all the time, it’s just way too much fun. Anyway, you should check it out and post your outfits, because it is awesome.

McQ for Target

Lots of pics have been floating around for the past week or so of Alexander McQueen’s upcoming Target collection, and, as usual, I reserve judgment until I see the clothes in person. There is a lot of promising stuff, mostly pretty basic, but it all comes down to the quality of the fabric and construction. I was expecting something a little more…eccentric, though, since his muse for the collection was Leila Moss, who dresses pretty awesomely. I’m definitely considering that jumpsuit, though.
We’ll see.

More looks after the jump!

You Left Your Glasses on Your Head. Again.

One of the reasons I’ve been neglecting outfit posts:

photo-99I’m dressing like a total weirdo quite a lot these days. I’m taking a silversmithing class (it’s prettttyy much my favorite thing EVER), and working in the studio requires that I wear all natural fibers so I don’t melt my clothes into my skin (mmmm), the ugliest clothes I can find because I’m always covering them in blue wax, and these AWESOME safety glasses. Stylish, I know. But by the end of the week I should have some cool rings to show for it (or some ugly ones. Always a possibility.)! YAY!

The September Issue

I know we’ve all been waiting for a realllly long time for RJ Cutler’s documentary The September Issue, a documentary about the making of Vogue’s September 2007 issue. I’m definitely not a big fan of American Vogue. Most of the time I have no idea why I read it at all, but regardless, this sounds like an entertaining peek into the life of Anna and various other Voguettes. It premiered at Sundance, but for those of us stuck at home (in the thankfully warm weather, not the freezing mountains), it’s supposed to air on A&E eventually. Here’s a tiny, tiny little peek:
