I’ve been waiting with bated breath all week for Rodarte, and Kate and Laura Mulleavy delivered! They carried along in the same vein they’ve been pursuing for a couple seasons now, which I’m more than ok with. No need to change directions completely when you’re creating something so beautiful. That’s not to say there was nothing new here. They said they were thinking about Donnie Darko, skeletons (their show invitations were real xrays), and things that were left over and falling apart. The sisters played with the idea of skeletons and incorporated leather into the collection along with the signature knits and gorgeous, gorgeous dresses. Gah. It was just so beautiful. The blues, the blues, the blues! Every season, I’m so awed by the intricate workmanship of the clothes. They’re intricate and simple and grandiose and personal all at the same time.  I will take their decaying waste and leftovers any day. It’s one of my biggest dreams to own one of their dresses one day. This show made my day.
