Fall for Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez may have been about layers, colors, and frills, but for spring, the boys changed tack and did what lots of other designers are doing: they toughened up. But, they pointed out, “it’s not so much about toughness as it is about confidence.” And you’d have to be pretty confident to wear these clothes. They’re taking risks with this collection, which is on the conceptual side. I liked the use of leather and their new accessories. They showed a lot of jumpsuits, which some editors are raving about, but I’m pretty sure if I tried to wear their versions, I’d look like 10 year old fleeing from radioactive waste. Taken piece by piece, though, the collection is a step beyond what the duo has done before, and I really appreciate the toughness.
