I need 10 or 15…skirts…

Today, I was shopping for skirts for The Closet, and I realized that I’m just not really a skirt person. I wear plenty of them, I wear skirts and dresses more often than pants probably, but as I scrolled through pages and pages of skirts, my eyes began to glaze over and my reaction to most of them was “meh”. They were just circles of fabric with different prints! But what about skirts makes them difficult to shop for for me? I guess I’m just super picky when it comes to a skirt (more so than when it comes to dresses, strange, no?). I tend to always go short (the shorter the better for my stumpy legs!), and I really just like a nice bodycon skirt. I’m rarely excited about the amazing new skirt I saw or bought. The same goes for shorts. Something about skirts just gives me trouble when it comes to shopping. Maybe I’m more of a pant person than I thought…nahhh.

p1030845I’m alive…really. My life’s been rather hectic, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the blog, where it’s going, what I’m doing right and wrong, etc., etc., and taking my time deciding in what direction I want to take this. The blog isn’t something I want to half-ass and not really put time and effort into, and in the past couple months or so that’s what it’s become, and I’m just not satisfied with that. My focus right now is really on my sanity, my friends, and my work, and I want to figure out how to make this little project into something that I really want ot put effort into. I tend to get a little scared halfway through projects, as I have trouble finishing things and I’m always failing halfway through. I’m not self-absorbed enough to really think that people actually care about what I’m posting, but, in the rare chance anyone actually does care, I’m sorry for the spotty posting. I just want to do this the best way I can, and I want to take my time to figure out what that entails instead of rushing into anything and ending up creating something I don’t love.

On that random and possibly useless note, this is what I wore yesterday! Whoo! I probably overwear my Alexander Wang wool vest, but it just goes sooo well with everything! I can’t get over it. I went to the Alex Wang trunk show today at Barney’s and picked myself out some (read: too many) pieces from the fall collection. And, in the biggest surprise ever, my mom even got a bag! It’s an amazing bucket bag, and I will definitely be borrowing it often, much to her dismay that she can’t carry it all the time. I got a bag too, a big oversized fanny pack cross-body bag (does that sound crazy? well it is.) with the most awesome hardware, some shoes (I will not be thwarted this season in my quest to get some Alexander Wang shoes!!! Failure is not an option!), and a couple clothing pieces. I needed approximately…none of it…but it was just too good to pass up. Everything from the fall collection was amazing in person, or maybe I’m just brainwashed into slavish worship of his clothes. It’s kind of a problem.

Weardrobe <3 Kyotofu!!!

For such a small person (no wait, scrap that, for any person) I can RALLY when it comes to food, and this week was no exception. New York has definitely been a chance for me to try some really great restaurants. Tonight, I went to Kyotofu, an absolutely delicious Japanese dessert bar and restaurant. Everthing was amazingly delicious! I was a big fan of the pigs in a duvet, the soymilk ice cream sundae, the barbequed unagi, the chicken and tofu sliders, and the black sesame sweet tofu. Ok, so I loved everything. And the bakery delivers!! I mayyy be getting some scrumptious baked goods shipped out to California…

We were in Brooklyn hanging out with the super cool Jon and Pam from Market Publique (they were giving us an insider’s tour of Brooklyn!), and we passed by this:

p1030476Yay, managed to snap a quick photo while waiting for the subway back to our East Village apartment. I’ve been so busy these past few days that none of us have been taking outfit pictures. Mostly I’ve been freezing, because the East Coast is bitterly cold. I realize my Fendi sandals were a terrible choice for the day, but my feet hurt so badly after wearing difficult shoes and running all around the city shopping all weekend I decided to go for comfort over style. Obviously. I really should have worn more layers, though. (Oh, and I am now attached permanently to my new iPhone, because it is a LIFESAVER.) Ok, must run, I have lots more shopping and tons of work and meetings and puppy shopping to prep for!

New York: Day 4

I’ve done a fair amount of shopping this weekend. Yesterday I spent FAR, FAR too much money. More money than I’ve ever spent in one day shopping. Yes. Got some absolutely amazing things, both for the Weardrobe Closet and for my closet. I’m now sitting in Aroma working away. My shoulders are killing me (I lugged my computer all over the city yeterday shopping. It was terrible) and I desperately want to run around the corner to Barney’s. When I’m not going absolutely insane with the amount of work I have, I’ll post pictures of my glorious finds!

New York: Day 1…ish

We landed in New York earlier this afternoon, after a super early morning flight (yeah, I haven’t slept in a couple days) and headed straight for the apartment we rented and a good meal. I went to Brooklyn for the first time to see a gallery opening at The Future Perfect. My boss’s friend Hugh was showing his super fun and comfy chairs in the Hue Are You? exhibit. It was pretty cool, although I was incredibly disconcerted by the fact that I was the most colorfully dressed person there (everyone does wear black here). And we got to visit my boss’s adorable puppy Moe, who continually shed all over my black pants. But he’s just so adorable, you couldn’t possibly be angry at him.img_0030Lots of work to do, we’re going to be doing a lot of shopping tomorrow, but it’s good to be back in the Big Apple!

So I finally caved and got an iPhone. Apple continues to own my soul. But, this means I can blog on my phone. We’ll see how it goes. I’m still struggling with twitter. I’m too old to learn new tricks.

Weardrobe at SXSW!

I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but Weardrobe was a finalist in the SXSW Interactive Accelerator. This morning (well, it was morning for me), we demo-ed the site in front of a panel of judges in the social networking category. And…WE WON!!!!! We’ve beeen working so, so hard for the competition (I woke up this morning after 2 hours of sleep, and I couldn’t even stand up straight), and we were incredibly excited for it. The past week has been pretty exhausting, as I was “studying” for finals and prepping for Austin, but I am so incredibly relieved, excited, and proud of all our hard work. And we’re leaving for New York on Friday morning!! It’s all very exciting. Hopefully I will survive this week for that….
